Where did it all begin?
1942 – In 1942, the Second World War was in effect and the technology developed rapidly. The first CCTV camera we know of was developed by Siemens AG in Germany. It was built to observe the launch of rockets in the war.
1949 – An American company introduced the first commercial CCTV television system. During that year, a government contractor named Vericon began marketing the system. Little is known about the technology used in this product, but the video could not be recorded, they could be used live monitoring system. The same year the book 1984 was released by George Orwell
1968- The invention of the well-known VCR advanced into the world of CCTV. New York (Olean) was the first city in the world to install CCTV cameras along its main street.
1973 – NYPD in New York set up cameras to monitor and deter crime in Times Square.
The 1980s – Although the cameras have little impact on
crime reduction, video surveillance began to spread across the United States.
1985 – After many unsuccessful attempts in the 1970s took
UK and installed the first outdoor CCTV system in the beautiful
coastal towns of Bournemouth.
1987 – In King Lynn, Norfolk, the Council set up the first
municipal surveillance system. The installation of the cameras has been proven
succeeds in deterring crime. This resulted in a dramatic
increase of CCTV cameras installed in public places.
The 1990s developed digital multiplexing, which
enabled multiple cameras to record simultaneously, and recording
movement. This saved time and money, which led to an increase of
the use of CCTV
1996- The first centralized IP camera, Axis Neteye 200,
of Axis Communications .Axis Neteye 200 was not intended to replace
traditional analogue CCTV systems, since its capacity was limited to
just one frame per second in CIF or one every 17 seconds in 4CIF resolution, with one
resolution quality of 0.1 MP (352×288).
1998 – Over 3,000 CCTVs are now used in New York and privately
companies and government organizations have invested heavily in technology. Axis had
started using Linux in the camera software. Axis also released documentation
for its application interface (API), called VAPIX, which is based on open
standards for HTTP and real-time streaming protocol (RTSP). This one open
the architecture was intended to encourage third-party manufacturers to develop
compatible software for handling and recording.
1999-The first decentralized IP camera was released
Mobotix. The camera’s Linux system contained video, alarm and
recording management functions. The first POE standard saw the light of the world.
2001 – After the 9/11 attacks in New York, CCTV was seen as
a key tool to combat terrorism and its use
surveillance cameras racked around the world. </p>
2005- The first IP camera with built-in video content analysis
(VCA) was released by Intellio. This camera was able to detect a number of different
events, such as if an item was stolen, a person crossed a line,
a person entered a predefined zone or a car failed
2013 – British Security Industry Authority (BSIA)
estimated that the UK has a CCTV camera for every 11 people. It is
a lot; 5.9 million active cameras in the country.
